Hiring a photographer for your event may be the last thing on your mind when you are planning and locking down details. Consider all the time and effort you spend on making an event go off without a hitch and when it's all over what do you have? Well, you might not have photos of the event to use for future promotions or for newsletters unless you secured a professional photographer to capture the goings on. Now you can try and rely on collecting images from other peoples cameras, but after the event that is the last thing on anyone's mind. The fact is people say "I'll email you that pic" but rarely does it ever happen. So you can contact a professional photographer and ask him or her to cover the event. Now as a photographer when I get these calls I know the score... no money in the budget for photos. But here is where you need to speak the language of love, marketing. Have a plan for the images that they will take and let them know where they will end up. Exposure and marketing are key to freelance photographers and they are always looking for ways to cross promote and open up new markets. Also, when you run into them at the event introduce them around to key people at the event and they will take it from there. If you call a few photographers for an upcoming event an don't get a positive response keep trying, because there are plenty of them that are always eager to be in the mix and meeting future clients.
